The illustration presents a digitally crafted paeonia suffruticosa or commonly known as peony. The pink peony is inspired by my mother, an avid gardener, as this species is her favorite flower amongst all others. The illustration includes a bud and a full grown flower on the same stem to, not only show the scientific difference between the two stages, but to also metaphorically portray the bond between mother and daughter. The position of the flower and plain background are used to emphasize the simplistic and delicate beauty of the flower. The name below was inserted to mimic the vintage illustration layout even though the work is a digital piece. The fusion was created as an ode to traditional scientific floral illustrations.
