DESCRIPTION: Scientifical illustration is a field of knowledge where the science meets the art. This illustration is an attempt to emphasis this interaction so it is balancing at the junction of natural science and visual art.
The compared objects are wings because of their unique properties and structure which often become an inspiration. Here are two layers of comparison. First - scientifical - shows the evolutionary similarities and differences between species. Second - more from the history of arts - an attempt to understand why some images of nature are associated with beauty and harmony, while others have become symbols of sadness or death. The collation is based on a contrast between two art styles - 'art nouveau' and 'art noire'. On the left - famous art nouveau symbols: The Dragonfly (Aeschna j.), The Butterfly (Papilio m.) and The Hummingbird (Amazilia c.). On the right - symbols of the 'dark arts': The Cockroach (Blaberus g.), The Moth (Acherontia a.) and The Bat (Craseonycteris th.)
