DESCRIPTION: Jaguar is the largest feline living South America. It is a near threatened species belonging to the family of Felidae and its genus is Panthera. It is predominantly found in South and Central America. Jaguars prefer dense rainforests as habitats, but they also enjoy being in open terrains. They are good swimmers, and are often in swamps, where they hunt fish, turtles or caimans. They also feed on larger animals such as deer, peccaries, capybaras, and tapirs. Moreover, they climb trees to prepare ambushes, killing their prey with one powerful bite. The illustration shows one of these moments in which a jaguar is on a tree observing its surroundings.
