The Lanius is a genus of passerine birds, that lives in Eurasia, Africa and North America. It's a little bird, that doesn't surpass the 25 centimeters. One of its characteristics is hanging its prey on thorns for storage (see illustration). In fact Lanius is derived from the Latin word for "butcher".
