Armadillo Girdled Lizard also known as hard shelled lizard reside in the desert areas along with the western coasts of South Africa. It’s size can range between 7.5 to 9 cm and can even grow upto 11 cm. It’s coat can vary between light brown to a deeper, darker brown.
Although it’s confusing to tell males and females apart, the males generally have a larger triangular heads than their counter parts. The females undergo a natural birthing process instead of laying eggs.
Sensing danger it takes it’s tail in it’s mouth and rolls into a ball.
Armadillo Lizards used to be common in pet trade but this has dropped considerably as the species are slowly heading to extinction leaving it’s conversation status to vulnerable.
