Descripción:
The red crossbill (Loxia curvirostra) is a forest songbird of the family of finches (lat. Fringillidae), of the order (Passeriformes). Characterized by a beak with crossed tips and nutrition seeds of spruce and other coniferous trees. Body length up to 17 cm, weighs 43-57 G.
Wonderful peculiar structure of the beak. Upper mandible and lower mandible are crossed over each other and their sharp ends are given on the sides of the beak.The males are red or red-crimson, the lower part of the abdomen is grayish-white. Females are greenish-gray with yellow-green edges of the feathers. Lives in coniferous and mixed, but predominantly spruce, less pine and larch forests.
