An ecosystem is a community of animals, plants and microbes that sustain themselves in the same environment by performing the activities of living, feeding, reproducing and interacting. Every little animal within it has a vital role in the well-being of the planet. For example grasshoppers play a critical role in the environment, making it a safer and more efficient place for plants and other animals to thrive. While they can do significant damage to a farmer's crops, without these insects the ecosystem would be a much different place. For instance, they can contribute to the fertilization of the soil and feeding the predators (like birds).
The technique, which was used in this scientific illustration work, was scratchboard. I used this technique to reach two important goals: first, as it is a scientific illustration, the elements should be real to display the exact appearance of the elements required for learning. Using this technique, I tried to draw the grasshopper’s tissue nearer to the reality. Second, this technique makes visual attraction. So that, I tried to stimulate the visual sense of the spectators in order to motivate them to learn the related concepts better.
