The illustration shows a lineated tulip. Similar ones were the most expensive flowers during the tulips fever in Netherlands between the years 1634 - 1637. Interesting fact is, that the characteristic ornaments on the blossom leaves were caused by infection. That is why each plant was unique. The illustration present the whole plant with leaves, bloom and bulb completed with the details of bloom, bulb and ovary.
