The illustrated species Blastocerus dichotomus is also called in Brazil as Cervo-do-pantanal and is mentioned as a vulnerable species in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It was registered in the Pantanal biome which is located in western central Brazil and is considered one of the most largest wet region of the world. Its typical flora and fauna are endangered through human activities like agricultural activity and is recognized as a Biosphere Reserv by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
