The purpose of this illustration is to try and accurately depict the anatomy and colouration of the Pteropus, commonly known as Fruit bats, or Flying Foxes for the express purpose of this competition. The motivation to choose the Pteropus as the subject of this image is because of the inspirational and conservation efforts made by a number of Australian charities working hard to rescue and protect the species from the unintended damage caused by human settlement.
