Metynnis maculatus (Kner 1858)
Descripción:
Metynnis maculatus (Kner 1858) known as Pacu Peva (in Portuguese) or Spotted Metynnis (in English) is a type of fish that pertains to the Serrasalmidae family which can be found in South America: more specifically in Amazon basin. I made the drawing this year (2017) and the inspiration came from a photograph taken by my father (José Roberto de S. Araujo, chemical engineer) in 2006 during a research about Paraiba do Sul river ichthyofauna in Southeast of Brazil. M. maculatus species are not usually found in this location, they are considered exotic species and can be prejudicial to the native fishes. They measure about 14, 8 centimeters and are omnivorous opportunists feeding on insects, smaller fishes, algae, fruit, nuts, aquatic and terrestrial plants.
