The toad is pretty popular on folklores and myths. The toad was sacred to Ragana, the Lithuanian goddess of death and regeneration. As late as the 20th century, mistreatment of toads had dire conciquences, for instance, angering a toad can cause it to blow up, explode and cover the offending person with poison.
