Title:
Orquid
Species:
Zygopetalum maxillare x Z. crinitum
Description:
Zygopetalum is a South American orquid. Most species originate in Brazil. There are only fifteen to twenty distinct species recognized. This one is an hybrid from a specialized orquid nursery of my city, Curitiba, in southern Brazil. The genus name comes from the Greek term for yoked petal, in reference to the yoke-like growth at the base of the flower lip. The flowers are green and brown with a large velvety lip marked by purple and fuchsia lines and have a nice fragrance. Their blooming takes one to three months. The long leaves come from pseudobulbs. This orquid grows best in places with thermal amplitude of ten to fifteen degrees.
