Red Panda - Chantal Dipnarine
This is a painting of the Red Panda species. Red Pandas are native to the Eastern Himalayas and Southwestern China. It resembles a raccoon more than it does a panda but maybe because of its similar diet and lifestyle to a regular panda is it called a 'Red Panda'. I did this painting with watercolor tube paints. I wanted to express the panda's agility by painting in the thin branch that it climbs on, as well as its overall cuteness by slightly exaggerating its facial features like the nose and mouth. I left the background white to bring out the various browns and reds of the Red Panda's fur coat and made several brush strokes to emphasis the fluffiness of its fur.
