Romanesco Broccoli is an Italian vegetable variety of cauliflower. It has a pointy turret-like floret structure. It is an interesting example of pyllotaxis that form fractal-like conical spiral pattern.
These are logarithmic spirals, an approximation of the "golden spiral". The number of spirals running in each directions are two consecutive numbers of "Fibonacci series", in which each successive numbers is the sum of previous two: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, etc.
For example this Romanesco Broccoli has n. 8 spirals clockwise and n .13 spirals counterclockwise, that are two consecutive numbers of Fibonacci series. Taking any two successive (one after the other) Fibonacci Numbers, their ratio is a special number (φ) approximately equal to 1,618, thar is called "the golden ratio".
