Título:
The last old growth araucaria forest in southern Brazil

Especie:
Araucaria Forest

Descripción:
The original forest landscapes in southern Brazil were altered by the exploitation of large trees and other forms of life. The identification of Old Growth Forests is possible by the presence of giant trees and large tree ferns. One method of comparing the anthropogenic effect on forests is to measure them and map their components in plots (10 m2). Anthropized forest (±30 – 60 years, Araucaria), views: vertical (A) and horizontal (A '), Curitibanos, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Old growth forest (±200 – 500 years, Araucaria), views: vertical (B) and horizontal (B '), Fraiburgo, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Legend: (a) Brazilian pine, Araucaria angustifolia; (b) dominant trees; (c) codominant trees; (d) understory; (e) Tree fern, Dicksonia sellowiana.
