Título: The short-lived vertebrate Nothobranchius furzeri
Especie: Nothobranchius furzeri

Descripción: Nothobranchius furzeri is an African teleost that inhabit temporary water bodies subject to annual desiccation due to the alternation of the monsoon seasons, and also the vertebrate with the shortest lifespan ever recorded in captivity. Their short lifespan (between 3 and 18 months) is coupled to rapid age-dependent functional decline and expression of cellular and molecular changes comparable to those observed in other vertebrates, including humans. Other important features comprehend sexual dimorphism and dichromatism, and the developmental diapause phase, where embryos survive throughout the dry period.
