Título: Lotus
Especie: Nelumbo nucifera: seed box and leaf

Descripción: LOTUS (Nelumbo nucifera) is perennial aquatic plant with knotted rhizome belonging to tropical relict species; family Nelumbonaceae. Illustration represents a seed box and leaf. The image is conditionally divided into two parts, displaying two time periods: the seed box during maturation and already dried up. The lotus leaf has the shape of a shield with a hollow in the middle and covered with a wax coating. Seed box is cone-shaped with separately located cells. Lotus seeds are mostly oval or spherical. They are generally 1.2–1.8 cm long and a weight of 1.1–1.4 g. The similarity to nuts in a hard, hard shell is the reason for the name of this species. The lotus dries up as it ripens, gradually bends its head. Thus, the seeds spill out and fall into the water.
