Description: The Gambian Pouched Rat is an animal with a strong sense of curiosity. I made sure to present this in my illustration through showing the rat sniffing while still in a recognisable resting pose. I wanted to display how they rely on their senses to manoeuvre their surroundings, with a sense of smell so powerful the rats are used to sniff out land mines in Cambodia, labelling them the 'Hero Rat'. I love the idea of the rat being viewed as more than just vermin and so wanted to showcase it as an important animal through the grandeur of the drawing within the A3 page .
