Descripción: The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) has evolved a "false thumb" that enables them to grab the bamboo stems while eating. This sixth finger is not homologous to any of our fingers, but it develops from the sesamoid bone.
The popular essay "The Panda's Thumb" by Stephen Jay Gould a famous paleonologist, this morphological adaptation has become a classic example as evidence of evolution.
