Título: Megachile Specimen
Especie: Megachile perihirta

Descripción: Megachile perihirta, or the Western leafcutting bee, is native to the western regions of North America. Interestingly, these bees are solitary and don't live in colonies, but instead nest individually in cavities made in rotting wood or plants which they line with leaf cuttings. I illustrated this specimen from life after finding it naturally deceased outside my home. Due to the lack of longer pollen collecting hairs on its belly, I believe this specimen to be male. The pose that it is illustrated in is exactly how it was found, and it's incredibly well preserved. Due to the condition of it and the time of year it was found, it had likely died from cold exposure.
