Título: Regeneration of the Axolotl
Especie: Ambystoma mexicanum
Descripción: The axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is an important species for medical research as a model organism and also for its unique ability to regenerate almost any part of its body. Although they are easy to breed and abundant in captivity, in the wild their numbers are dwindling. They are native to a specific location: Lake Xochimilco, which is near Mexico City. Here their numbers are rapidly declining due to human activity, habitat loss, and drought. This presents an issue for populations around the world as both captive and wild populations have serious issues with inbreeding and both are at risk of being completely wiped out.
