Descripción: Botanical genus " Tropaeolum L.. This one shown here " Tropaeolum majus L. " has reddish and yellow flowers. It is a small herbaceous, annual, climbing or crawling plant. This genus includes the species best known as Nasturtium, Nose-twistwer or Nose-tweaker and in portuguese more common name, Capuchinas, Cinco-chagas, Bico de papagaio and Nastúrcio etc. It is a medicinal, ornamental as well as a food plant. Its main feature, is that it is an edible plant, flower, leaves an seedpods have a peppery taste like watercresses. The flowers contain about 130 mg of vitamin C and up to 45 mg of lutein per 100 g, which is the highest amount found in any edible plant. As a medicinal plant is used for respiratory and urinary tract infections.
