Descripción: "Mulungu-do-litoral" (Erythrina speciosa Andr.) is an endemic species from Brazil, which occurs naturally in wetlands, near water courses or in permanently flooded areas and is worldwide cultivated.
Easily found in Brazilian streets and squares, due to its common use in landscaping, it is also known in folk medicine, with indications for various health problems, especially as a sedative and tranquilizer. Its flowers are an abundant source of nectar for native fauna, especially hummingbirds.
Erythrina speciosa is a shrub or tree up to 7m tall, characterized by its scaly stem, rhombic leaflets, and a very showy, candelabriform inflorescence in vibrant red tones, sometimes with rose or white flowers. (Martins, M.V. 2020. Erythrina in Flora do Brasil 2020).
