Title: Siberian wood frog in a small water canal, Novosibirsk region.
Specie: Siberian wood frog (Rana amurensis)

Description: In West Siberia, in late April and early May, the frog mating season begins. Shallow water reservoirs are filled with hundreds of frogs. The seething of water in places of accumulation of amphibians is especially well heard in the evening, when extraneous noises subside. This moment is captured in the figure. According to literary sources (Amphibians and reptiles of the Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions, 2002) three species of frogs are widespread in Western Siberia. This is Moor frog (Rana arvalis), Siberian wood frog (Rana amurensis) and Morsh frog (Pelophulax ridibundus). Quite different in appearance, these species of frogs occupy similar distribution areas.
