Descripción: Philcoxia is a Brazilian endemic genus of carnivorous plants that comprises seven species, all of which are restricted to sandy habitats of the Caatinga and Cerrado biomes, including areas of campos rupestres, within the boundaries of the Espinhaço Range and Central Plateau. All species of Philcoxia are herbs with a complex underground system composed of an upright stem (simple or branched) from which may emanate laterally radiating filaments (currently referred to as rhizomes) and leaf petioles; aerial parts include peltate leaf blades situated at or slightly below the soil surface, flowers arranged in racemose inflorescences with a zigzag axis, and an androecium of only two stamens with monothecous, glabrous anthers.
