Title: Freshwater crustaceans of South America. - There are 4 species: Aegla: Aegla schmitti; Crab: Trichodactylus fluvialitis; Amphipod: Hyalella sp. (species still in description); Shrimp: Macrobrachium carcinus.
Description: The central idea of this illustration was to represent some of the diversity and beauty of freshwater crustaceans in South America. The main reason for this choice was that freshwater crustaceans are generally "less popular" than those found in saltwater and also less known. Few people are aware of the existence of these animals in limnic environments. In fact, the anomuram Aegla occurs only in South America, and the Hyalella is not only exclusively freshwater but also endemic to the American continent.
