This unique species, taller and heavier than other penguins, is a symbol of resistance to the harsh polar cold. Their group life not only ensures the safety of their chicks, but also demonstrates the unparalleled cooperation of parents.Emperor penguins are monogamous during the breeding season, and males and females are not visibly different in appearance. The male penguin goes without food for **115 days**—during the period of incubating and protecting the chick—and cares for the eggs, while the female returns to the sea to find food.
