Descripción:
A multi-perspective botanical study of the Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea). The illustration deconstructs the flower into several views, highlighting the expansive, veined standard petal and the way it folds to protect the reproductive core. By including both profile and frontal views, the work provides a 360-degree understanding of the species' morphology.
The objective is to document floral architecture through deconstruction. Created for a botanical research project, this piece aims to show the "unfolded" reality of the plant. It serves as an educational tool to help observers identify the Clitoria ternatea by its unique vascular patterns and the specific curvature of its petals, which are more visible in ink than in high-saturation photography.
Rendered in an ink pen on paper, the process focused on high-fidelity cross-hatching to mimic the natural texture of plant tissue.
Technical: I used varied line weights to distinguish between the soft, paper-thin petals and the sturdier vine stems.
Artistic: The black-and-white medium emphasises the venation (vein structure), creating a rhythmic visual flow. This monochrome approach ensures the viewer focuses on the structural "skeleton" of the bloom, allowing for a precise and undistracted interpretation of its organic form.
